Second week of Tržič experiment and final event

As the second half of the REVIVE live experiment in Tržič progressed, the overall energy of creativity and innovation continued to build, leading up to a series of significant milestones and culminating events.

The young talents and their mentors dedicated several days to hands-on site work and prototyping. The once underutilized courtyard of Tržič Museum began to transform through the efforts of these young talents. They constructed and built temporary prototypes, designed exhibitions, and created artistic installations that would offer a glimpse into the future of these revitalized public spaces. Every element was carefully documented, ensuring a comprehensive record of their innovative processes and solutions.

In the days leading up to the final event, the team focused on fine-tuning their experiment site. This included final adjustments and preparations for the much-anticipated sharing event. Significant moments included a press conference where the media had the opportunity to engage with the participants and learn about their journey and achievements. The culmination was the final presentation event, a momentous occasion where the team showcased their comprehensive urban designs, conceptual plans, and artistic works to the community and stakeholders.

The final day of the experiment was dedicated to reflection and evaluation. The team participated in an evaluation and learning session, discussing their experiences, insights, and the impact of their work. This session was crucial for understanding the effectiveness of their strategies and planning future initiatives. The project concluded with a heartfelt farewell lunch, celebrating the friendships formed and the collaborative spirit that drove the success of the REVIVE experiment.

Project Overview and Achievements

From June 30, 2024, to July 13, 2024, a group of 14 young talented architects, urban planners, artists, historians, anthropologists, and sociologists from Finland, Spain, Croatia, Italy, Romania, and Slovenia gathered at the Tržič Museum garden. They explored the needs of Tržič residents and planned solutions for the revitalization of unused public spaces of the Tržič Museum garden and nearby buildings. The aim of the experiment was to design and pilot how a valuable public area could become a beautiful and friendly space for museum programs while also serving as a safe and stimulating environment for intergenerational gatherings of the town’s residents.

After a three-month preparatory period conducted remotely, the participants demonstrated remarkable results in less than two weeks of the live experiment in Tržič, under the guidance of three professional leaders. Their achievements are comparable to, or even surpass, those of an architectural competition. The Tržič experiment produced the following outcomes:

  • A comprehensive urban design for the potential future development of the garden of the Tržič Museum.

  • A conceptual plan for the renovation of the garden house as an entry point to the garden.

  • A conceptual plan for the renovation of the nearby Sončeva House (formerly Bedin House) into a community café and public space for residents to gather.

  • Temporary prototypes, models, a photo exhibition, and artistic installations that practically demonstrate how the museum garden will look and function if these plans are realized.

  • A documentary film about Tržič and its residents, with whom the young professionals interacted during their stay in the town, which is published here.

Community Engagement and Future Prospects

The REVIVE experiment in Tržič has not only provided innovative solutions for the town’s public spaces but has also set a benchmark for future urban development inspired by the New European Bauhaus initiative. The project has successfully demonstrated how young, unencumbered perspectives can create sustainable, inclusive living spaces that serve the community’s needs.

A documentary film about Tržič and its residents, created during the experiment captures the essence of the town and the inspiring stories of its people, further enriching the project’s narrative.

The Municipality of Tržič, the Association of Historic Towns of Slovenia, and the Tržič Museum extend an invitation to all to visit the park, view the plans, and experience the exhibitions and installations. Each element has been carefully designed and placed, with accompanying descriptions to guide visitors.
